How to Put on a Clamp Ring for my Parrot

clamp step 1

  1. Pick up a jump ring, by using 2 pliers, twist the jump ring in a "Up and Down" direction. Do not pull the jump ring apart, but twist it front and back as shown in the diagram.

clamp step 2

  1. By using one plier to hold the jump ring, insert it over the hole on your clamp ring. Then very quickly, pick up your second plier, and close back the jump ring using the twisting method, exactly like how you did to open it. Whala, Congratez!

How to Put on a Split Ring for my Parrot

split ring step 1

  1. Look for the split/opening on the ring. Use a sharp-mouth plier or any tools you are comfortable with, open apart the split ring. Do not open it too wide, just enough to fit through your parrot leg. This is to avoid the ring from deforming or breaking.

split ring step 2

  1. Use a plier that has a round hole as shown in the picture. This is extremely important to prevent the ring from slipping off and severely injuring your parrot's leg. Fit your ring into the round slot, slowly tighten it and close up the ring. Whala!! Do note that the split/opening might be slightly wider than before but don't worry, it will not hurt your bird or slip off.

prevent scratches

  1. Lastly, you should also use rubber bands or thin cloth to wrap around the plier's "mouth" before tightening the ring. This is important as well to prevent your ring from getting scratches. These scratch-marks might affect the visibility of the engraving.

How to Put on a Full Ring for my Parrot

Parrot Toe 1

  1. We know that parrot has 2 toes in front and 2 behind. One of the toes behind can easily be moved to the front. It is the longer toe behind. You can try moving both the toes behind and trust me, you'll know which one it is, very obviously.

Parrot Toe 2

  1. Now, insert your full ring through the 3 toes that are in the front.
  2. Slightly pushes the last toe behind against the foot and wear the ring through, like a sleeve.

TIPS:

  • If it is tight and a little hard to wear in, apply some lotion/oil/soap to make the skin smoother and slippery.
  • If your parrot is very tensed, it will clasp its foot very tightly. At this point, it is impossible to force it in. Gentle massage its feet, talk to your parrot, calm him/her down. Once your parrot relaxes, the muscles will loose, quickly but gently fit the ring through it.
